Style and the City: Join Melbourne Fashion Week’s 30th Anniversary Festivities
Celebrated as the fashion capital’s largest runway event, this month it has been announced that Melbourne Fashion Week (M/FW) will be returning in 2024 to celebrate it’s 30th anniversary. Set to take place from the 21st – 27th of October, this year the 2024 program is brimming with both emerging and established designers and creatives.
Showcasing Melbourne as the thriving city it is, runways and events will take place at several of the city's most popular locations including, THE LUME Melbourne, Melbourne Town Hall, Queen Victoria Market, Little Bourke Street and the iconic Melbourne Museum.
M/FW are also excited to announce that internationally renowned Melbourne-born musician G Flip will bring their energy and signature style to the event as the official 2024 ambassador. Taking to the stage with a showstopping performance as part of the Closing Showcase towards the end of the week, the selection of G-Flip as the event’s ambassadors further reflects M/FW theme of ‘You’re Invited’, which strives to embrace diversity and celebrate individuality.
When it comes to what designers and brands will feature on the M/FW runway, guests can expect to see familiar favourites, including Oroton, Aje, Bec + Bridge, Ngali and many more.
With over 30 independent events across seven days, and five Fashion Capsule exhibits, both critics and fashion enthusiasts will have access to a variety of engaging runways and events that spark conversation.
Australia’s First Nations favourites are set to kick off the week with the Ganbu Marra runway opening M/FW on the 21st of October. Created as an all-Indigenous runway, Ganbu Marra will showcase the works of over seven First Nations designers and brands including but limited to Amber Days, Gammin Threads, Ihraa Swim, and more. Attending guests are also invited to view two exhibitions, Piinpi: Contemporary Indigenous Fashion created by the Bendigo Art Gallery and First People’s in the Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre.
When it comes to M/FW closing runway, the highly anticipated spectacle will showcase current and archival pieces from an all-star cast of 30 designers, plus that special performance from M/FW ambassador G FLIP. The closing runway will feature Akira, Alpha 60, Clothing the GapsErik Yvon, Grace Lillian Lee, and more.
Due to 2024 marking the renowned fashion event’s 30th anniversary, this year’s closing runway is set to be a spectacular tribute to Melbourne’s rich style legacy, presented by the designers who have undeniably shaped it.
Held at the Melbourne Town Hall – once the home of M/FW – the closing runway will be a celebration as much as a showcase.
With an enticing program and an impressive celebrity guest list, M/FW is pulling out all the stops this year. From city-wide runways to thought-provoking discussions, exhibitions, workshops, and more, attendees are expected to travel from far and wide.
Set to reignite Melbourne’s reputation as fashion’s hub of creativity and craft, in 2024 M/FW will showcase the city just as much as the talented designers who call it home.
