As a fashion editor, I’ve had the pleasure of watching brands evolve, but few hold the iconic and deeply nostalgic space in my heart that Onitsuka Tiger does. Over the years, I’ve seen the brand capture the transcendent spirit of youth—often a fleeting and complex phase of life—through their collections. Their latest offering for Spring/Summer 2025, unveiled at Milan Fashion Week, feels especially poignant. It speaks directly to that delicate balance of vulnerability and resilience that marks the journey to adulthood, and it does so with a profound elegance that resonates with today’s transient, sometimes daunting reality.
The theme of the collection, Urban Beats, is more than just a visual representation. It is an anthem to the restless, adventurous spirit of youth—a raw, honest depiction of growth. As I watched the collection unfold, I was struck by the way it embodies the intimate dance between self-expression and strength, between vulnerability and ambition. Onitsuka Tiger captures the pulse of youth navigating the ever-changing landscape of adulthood, where moments of doubt give way to an unyielding determination to carve out one’s place in the world.
Each piece in this collection tells a story. It’s a study of contrasts—gender-bending silhouettes and androgynous styles that embrace both the fluidity and friction of growing up. The soft edges, seen in draped fabrics and textured knits, contrast with structured, bold pieces like tuxedo vests, Safari jackets, and cargo shorts. It’s a collection that embraces the contradictions of youth, blending elements from the past, like vintage lingerie, with the forward-thinking designs of today.
The sturdy, chunky-soled footwear, from faux fur-clad clogs to square-toed pumps and sleek rubberized sandals, provides a grounding element, as though anchoring the wearer amid the winds of change. It’s a reminder that while the journey may be unpredictable, strength and stability can be found within.
This year also marks Onitsuka Tiger’s 75th anniversary, a milestone that feels especially significant in the context of this collection. In a special collaboration with leading skinwear brand Wolford, they presented a capsule collection that included body-hugging skin-to-skin dresses, draped tops, and stockings in a wide spectrum of nude tones—pieces that felt like a second skin, adding another layer of intimacy to the collection.
The show was attended by global stars such as MOMO from TWICE, American singer Normani, and Indian actress Rashmika Mandanna, all of whom brought their own unique energy to the event. The after-party, hosted in the same venue and decorated with installations of the newest SS25 collection, was soundtracked by the incredible Honey Dijon—model, DJ, and designer—whose beats brought the theme of Urban Beats to life in full force.
For me, Onitsuka Tiger’s SS2025 collection isn’t just about fashion; it’s about capturing the emotional essence of youth—its vulnerability, determination, and the exciting yet uncertain path to adulthood. It is a collection that resonates deeply with anyone who remembers what it felt like to walk that road, and it serves as a powerful reminder of how fashion can encapsulate the most profound stages of our lives.
