As ever, Melbourne’s fashionistas took to the streets in full bloom this year, turning the sidewalks into their own stage. From avant-garde ensembles to that effortlessly sexy street style only Melburnians can pull off, the show outside the tent was every bit as thrilling as what was happening inside. Honestly, I think Melbourne Fashion Week is right up there as a global contender in the style stakes.
This year, what really caught my eye was the boldness of individual expression. Melburnians don’t just dress; they declare. No other city revels in character quite like ours, with a cheeky je m’en fous (look it up, it’s worth it) attitude that says, “We don’t conform; we create.” And that spirit? Well, that’s where true style lives.
Our photographer extraordinaire, Mila Melnikova, was on the ground to capture every iconic moment, and yes, even caught me in my father’s vintage Dior suit—a piece older than I am but twice as charismatic. So, feast your eyes on Mila’s highlights from MF/W 2024’s street fashion, and let’s make this interesting: tell us your favorites, but also the looks that left you scratching your head. Because here in Melbourne, we celebrate it all—the good, the great, and the “what were they thinking?” moments.
Ciao for now,
